The editorial stance is a collective statement on the part of The Blue and Grey’s editorial board regarding a particular issue.
This edition’s editorial stance is regarding the comment board in Coblentz dining hall and the derogatory comments posted during the week before Thanksgiving break. Several comments, which included name-calling and offensive language, were personally insulting to students for no apparent reason. It is the position of the editorial board that these rude comments are immature, disrespectful and pointless. While it’s likely that the anonymity of the comment board makes students think they can post anything they want, it is important to understand that the board’s purpose is to express helpful opinions to the dining hall staff, not to give students an outlet to post childish and petty comments that have nothing to do with the dining hall. The comment board is intended as a means of open communication through which constructive criticism and input can be conveyed to the staff. If students keep abusing the board, which is a privilege given to us, it’s possible that the board could be removed and comments would have to be sent independently and privately to the staff. Students should remember that we’re part of a college community that needs to respect open communication, not exploit the chances that we have to maturely express our opinions.
